Patek Philippe started life in Geneva Switzerland, on May the 1st in 1839. When two Polish immigrants. Antoni Patek, who was a businessman. And François Czapek, a professional watchmaker. Joined forces to found Patek, Czapek & Cie. Five years later in Paris in 1844. Antoni Patek, met a French watchmaker. By the name of Jean-Adrien Philippe. Who demonstrated his pioneering stem winding. And setting system by the crown to him.
The following year, Czapek decided to leave the business, to work for himself. And the company’s name was changed, to Patek & Cie. It wasn’t until 1851. When Jean-Adrien Philippe. Became officially associated, with the firm. That it was renamed, to the more recognizable Patek Philippe & Cie. However once again, the name was changed one final time in 1901. To Ancienne Manufacture d’Horlogerie. Patek Philippe & Cie, S.A.
In 1932, the company was purchased by a pair of brothers. Jean and Charles Stern, who were the owners of a fine dial workshop in Geneva. Ever since then, Patek Philippe has remained in the hands of the Stern family.
Patek Philippe pride themselves on producing beautiful watches. That are mechanically perfect and keep precise time. All Patek watches are created with an aim of producing a wristwatch. That will become, an enduring classic. And will be handed down, from generation to generation. The brand is also proud to note. That their watches, always fetch a lot of money. At the prestigious auction houses.
Behind the often traditional designs however, lies a great deal of work and modern technology. Watches are assembled by hand. By around 200 specialist watchmakers. Pre-assembly, assembly. Fitting the balance springs and making adjustments. Are taken care of by these highly qualified individuals. The company as a whole, is always seeking to develop new technologies and mechanisms. Watch technicians experiment, with different types of materials. All with an aim to pushing these classic designs, firmly into the 21st century.
In the current collection. There are 19 basic calibers and over 50 different types of movement. All watches however, are only produced in small runs. This makes a Patek watch. An excellent investment, as they hold their value. Which when combined, with their timeless design and advanced technology. Means that they enjoy great success, among collectors.

In 2012 alone. The brand introduced 25 new designs. With their main focus being on complicated timepieces. For both men and women. They also launched, the long-awaited classic split-seconds chronograph. That has a perpetual calendar. Thus completing, the traditional chronograph trilogy. Based on its proprietary caliber.
